QUESTION: What is the difference between the ultrasonic nebuliser humidifier and the SIRIO dynamic humidifier?
ANSWER: Ultrasonic nebuliser humidifiers work by vibrating water through ultrasound, creating a sort of white mist composed of micro-droplets. These micro-droplets, being volatile, carry bacteria, minerals, pathogenic micro-organisms and limescale. When this mist comes into contact with the heat inside the incubator, it evaporates, turning into a white powder that settles on the eggs. This phenomenon facilitates the entry of bacteria through the shell, causing infection and death of the embryo. In addition, limescale clogs the pores of the shell, preventing the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, which are essential for proper embryo development.
The use of the fan in the ultrasonic atomisers, which transports this mist inside the incubator, also introduces oxygen, thus altering CO₂ levels. In artificial incubation, adequate levels of carbon dioxide (CO₂) start at around 2000 ppm and must gradually increase to 5000 ppm in the last three days before hatching. CO₂ acts as an acid oxide, weakening the structure of the shell and making it more brittle, thus facilitating breakage by the chick. Furthermore, maintaining high levels of CO₂ in the final stage instinctively stimulates the chick to break the shell in order to survive.
SIRIO, on the other hand, exploits sterile natural evaporation, a safe process that simulates what happens under the wings of a hen. This method does not introduce limescale, microorganisms or harmful external substances into the incubator. QUESTION: What water can I use with SIRIO Automatic Humidifier ?
ANSWER: It is essential to use only drinking water, i.e. water intended for human consumption. The use of unsuitable water can encourage the proliferation of bacteria during incubation, contaminating the embryos and leading to their death during hatching due to infection.
Furthermore, the use of demineralised water in artificial incubation is prohibited. This type of water, although lime-free, may be unsuitable because it undergoes industrial processes that can leave undesirable residues harmful to the embryos.
